Sarah’s story is a journey from personal loss to lifelong health; and is a superb example of turning great adversity into positive change. Fortunately for us, and all those who cross her path, Sarah’s health journey didn’t stop with her – which is why we’re thrilled to introduce you to Sarah Marling, one of our fantastic in-house Health Coaches.
What is a Health Coach?
For our NuMi clients a health coach like Sarah is a gateway to a healthier, happier you. From guiding you through our ‘Gold Standard’ DEXA Body Scanner {link to DEXA} and health review for deep insights – to helping you make a sustainable plan for nutrition and movement – Sarah will be with you every step of the way.
A Personal Quest for Health
Sarah’s journey began in the wake of personal tragedy. After the loss of her father to Bowel Cancer at the young age of 59, Sarah wasn’t going to let the fear of possibly inheriting the gene which would lead her to the same fate as her Dad, but instead sparked a deep interest in the preventative power of nutrition and lifestyle choices. Sarah strongly believes in the mantra of ‘genetics loads the gun, but lifestyle pulls the trigger’ and so she studied to become a Nutritional Therapist with the aim of enabling herself with the facts to make the lifestyle choices to support her own health, as well as helping others, reduce their risk of serious disease.
Simplifying Science, Enhancing Lives
Understanding the complex connection between diet, lifestyle, and health can be daunting. That's why Sarah is dedicated to demystifying the science behind healthy living. With a focus on evidence-based methods, she breaks down complex concepts into simple, digestible information, empowering clients to make informed decisions about their health.
Practicality Meets Sustainability
Life is full of challenges, and making lasting changes to our diet and lifestyle can often seem overwhelming. Recognising this, Sarah emphasises practicality in her approach. By supporting her clients to identify simple, achievable modifications that fit seamlessly into the hustle and bustle of their daily life, ensures that these changes are not just temporary fixes but sustainable habits that will support the achievement of both short-term goals as well as promote healthy ageing.
Debunking Nutrition Myths
One of the core philosophies of Sarah’s approach is the rejection of the one-size-fits-all calorie equation. She challenges the misconception that all calories are created equal, highlighting the importance of fuelling our bodies with the right nutrients, in the right amounts, at the right times of the day. It's definitely not about counting calories — it's about making all of our food choices count for our overall health and wellbeing. Sarah strongly believes in ensuring that food is to be enjoyed and not something that is seen as being ‘good’ or ‘bad’ – it’s about living life to the full, so we should always take the 80/20 approach to our dietary pattern. Eat the foods that will promote a healthy body and mind 80% of the time, and 20% of the time eat what makes you happy!
An Aussie's Love for the Great Outdoors
When not in the NuMi clinic, Sarah embraces an active lifestyle that reflects her Australian roots! Whether cycling through the countryside, playing golf with her family, or simply enjoying the lifestyle here in the UK where she now calls home, she embodies the very principles she shares with her clients — balance, happiness, and a deep connection to the outdoors!
