After countless heatwaves, we’re officially in full summer mode. Suitcases are being packed, sun cream is flying off the shelves, and local bureaux de changes are buzzing. Yes, the summer holiday season is well and truly upon us.

We don’t need to tell you how wonderful holidays can be. They offer a precious chance to step away from the day-to-day, explore new places, and, most importantly, truly rest and recharge.

But if you're someone who’s working towards a more balanced, healthy lifestyle, holidays can sometimes feel a little daunting.

“How can I stay on track?”
“Will I lose progress?”
“How will I get back into routine when I return home?”

These are all completely normal thoughts, and you’re not alone in having them.

That’s why we’ve pulled together our top tips for a happy, healthy, and balanced holiday, so you can enjoy every moment without the worry.

Aim for Balance, Not Perfection

A holiday is all about taking time for you. Soaking up new cultures, relaxing, and embracing life’s little joys. At NuMi, we believe that health isn’t about perfection; it’s about balance.

That’s why we follow the 80/20 rule.

It’s simple. Stay on track 80% of the time, and enjoy a little flexibility the other 20%. Whether that means taking a few extra rest days, indulging in a sweet treat, or sipping a cocktail by the pool, it’s all part of a balanced lifestyle.

This mindset isn’t just for holidays; it’s something you can carry into everyday life. An all-or-nothing approach often leads to burnout, guilt, or mental fatigue. But with the 80/20 lifestyle, you can stay aligned with your goals while still enjoying that extra scoop of gelato or saying yes to a spontaneous sunset dinner.

Focus on How You Want to Feel

Start your day with one simple question. When you wake up, ask yourself: “What will make me feel my best today?”

It might be a protein-rich omelette for breakfast, a post-dinner walk, or simply taking a few quiet moments for yourself.

Whatever it is, remember that small, intentional choices add up over time, boosting your health and your mood.

Start where you are, do what feels good, and build from there.

Stay Hydrated

It may sound obvious, but hydration is key, especially when you're on holiday.

Hot weather, alcohol, and salty foods can all lead to dehydration, leaving you feeling sluggish and tired. To stay on top of your game, keep a bottle of water with you at all times and sip regularly throughout the day.

And on those extra hot or sweaty days, add electrolytes to your water to help your body absorb fluids more effectively and stay fully refreshed.

Your body (and your holiday mood) will thank you.

Write It Down, Keep Moving Forward

Taking a moment to write down your thoughts, feelings, and the small steps you’ve taken to stay on track can be incredibly powerful.

Reflecting in this way not only boosts motivation, but it also helps you recognise the positive habits you’re already building into your holiday routine.

A few mindful minutes with pen and paper could be just what you need to keep that momentum going.

Stress less

Did you know your holiday could do more than just help you relax?

For many people, getting away is a chance to escape the pressures of daily life. But reducing stress doesn’t just feel good; it can have a real impact on the body.

When you’re in a high-stress environment, your body produces cortisol, a hormone that can affect sleep, digestion, and overall wellbeing.

Taking time to unwind and lower cortisol levels can lead to better sleep, improved digestion, and leave you feeling refreshed from the inside out.

Your body will thank you for the break.

Bon Voyage

By incorporating just a few simple tips into your holiday routine, you’ll return feeling relaxed, refreshed, and ready to ease back into your everyday rhythm.
